Man Seeking A Woman

Basic Information

I Can Speak
English, Binary
I Would Describe Myself As
I've received feedback my profile is too long. It might be but if a woman won't invest a few minutes reading it, I doubt she's willing to invest a few decades building, and being rewarded with, a wonderful relationship.

With that concept as a foundation, here's a quick test to see if you should continue reading. If the following anecdote resonates with you as it did with me, we already share a strong foundation. If not, you can save your time reading the rest.

My thanks to its author because it exactly portrays the type of relationship I'm seeking.

---

"A while ago I had a job that would take me past an intersection with a WaWa at the corner. After months passing this same intersection you notice things and pick up on routines. At this intersection was a crossing guard with Down's Syndrome who took his job very, very seriously; I've seen him give looks that could melt steel to cars who he deemed didn't stop in a reasonable amount of time. I'll call him "Ted."

In any case, when Ted wasn't helping the kids across the street he would wave at the cars going by; and I mean *every* car that passed by. If someone waved back or beeped, he would give this really big smile. It really seemed to make his day. Eventually I started waving back and he would give his really enthusiastic wave and smile looking directly at you the entire time.

I also noticed Ted had a girlfriend who also had Down's Syndrome. I would be passing by the intersection at what I would assume was the end of his shift at times and Ted was out there no matter what. If it was raining cats and dogs he'd be out there with a big day-glo parka. If it was cold, he'd be all bundled-up and she'd be right there with him. Sometimes she would just be standing there talking to him. Other times I'd see them coming out of the WaWa with coffee cups walking across the street holding hands off to the rest of their day. I remember laughing at myself thinking how good Ted had it: a girlfriend and a job he loved!

Today, years later, Ted popped into my head. I don't watch much television, maybe four hours a week counting sports. However at my gym the machines all face this huge bank of televisions and they're positioned directly in my line of sight so there really is no avoiding them. At the same time I can watch all the channels.

What I noticed is that they are all trying to sell something: a bigger this, a better that, more convenience and there is the endless parade of celebrities many of whom I have no idea what exactly they are famous for or why they garner so much attention.

In addition is news that makes the case that if not the entire world, then at least this country in particular has lost its collective mind. I'll give the Dr. Oz show a pass though; he's bringing people solid advice and ways to better their lives in a format that's easily digestible (no pun intended). But I digress.

Point is, there is so much emphasis on things or celebrity worship; all of the things we grasp onto to try to find some kind of meaning.

Ted with his apparent "disability, " truly lived the meaning of life: love and be loved. Be kind. Be of service. Protect those who can't protect themselves. Do something that has meaning to your life and do it well.

I bet Ted is still out there, happy as can be."
